Installation for Data Security for Dell

Introduction

Deploying Superna Data Security involves the Eyeglass appliance, an ECA cluster (optionally extended with a remote Mini-ECA), and — if Threat Hunting has been installed — a dedicated Threat Hunting ML VM. Eyeglass manages licensing and configuration; the ECA cluster processes audit data from your PowerScale or ECS clusters and performs the detection and response work. This page is a starting point for that deployment — for step-by-step procedures, use the Prerequisites and See Also links below.

Requirements and Prerequisites

Before installing Superna Data Security, review the prerequisites, including platform compatibility, system requirements, ECA/Mini-ECA/Threat Hunting ML VM sizing, licensing, and required network ports.

The prerequisites page includes detailed requirements specific to this installation.

Eyeglass Installation

Eyeglass is deployed as a single appliance VM, separate from the ECA cluster it manages — see Eyeglass Deployment for sizing and platform requirements. The deployment steps themselves (downloading the installer and importing the appliance on VMware, Nutanix, or Hyper-V) are the same across every Cyberstorage for Dell product, so they're documented once under Reference rather than repeated here:

Once Eyeglass is deployed and reachable, continue with ECA/Mini-ECA deployment and Eyeglass licensing below.

Disable Host Time Sync (Mandatory — VMware Only)

Important

On VMware, disabling host time synchronization is mandatory to prevent time skew errors between the Superna appliance and storage clusters. Time synchronization conflicts can cause authentication failures, replication issues, and data integrity problems. The VM must use NTP directly instead of inheriting time from the hypervisor host.

The steps below apply to VMware vSphere deployments only. If you are deploying on another supported hypervisor, follow the applicable deployment guidance for that platform.

VMware Configuration

  1. Access VM Settings
Right-click the VM and select Edit Settings.

  2. Navigate to VM Options
    Click the VM Options tab.

  3. Open VMware Tools Settings
    Expand the VMware Tools section.

  4. Disable Time Synchronization
Under Synchronize guest time with host, uncheck both options:

    • Synchronize at startup and resume (recommended)
    • Synchronize periodically (recommended)

This configuration prevents time skew errors.
