License Management with Eyeglass

Introduction​

Eyeglass license keys are automatically applied across your managed clusters for all licensed products (Disaster Recovery, Ransomware Defender, Easy Auditor). This page covers how to retrieve and apply a product license key, how automatic license assignment works, and how to manually assign or reassign a license to a specific cluster when needed.

A license code is emailed to you when your order is filled. Protect your license keys using each product's backup function — if a license key is lost or an appliance is deleted, restoring the license requires assistance from the Superna sales team, and is not covered by standard support cases or SLAs.

Retrieve Your Product License Key​

  1. Get your product's unique appliance ID:

    The appliance ID is displayed directly in Inventory → License Management, with a Copy Appliance ID button next to it. If you need to retrieve it over SSH instead, connect to the CAA (Core Agent Appliance):

  2. Log in to the Superna Support Portal.

  3. Enter your appliance ID and the transaction/license code from your order confirmation email, then click Request License.

    important

    Copy the full appliance ID exactly, with no leading or trailing spaces. Using the wrong appliance ID, or pairing the correct ID with the wrong token, requires assistance from sales@superna.net to correct — support cases cannot be used for license issues.

  4. A license zip file downloads to your browser automatically. Do not unzip this file — upload it as-is in the next step. If the download does not start, your firewall may be blocking required URLs; confirm your outbound allow list with Superna Support.

Apply the License Key​

Applies to Disaster Recovery, Ransomware Defender, and Easy Auditor:

  1. Log in to the Eyeglass VM GUI as an admin user.
  2. Open Inventory → License Management (shared, top of sidebar).
  3. Select + License, browse to the downloaded license zip file, and upload it. Accept the Eyeglass EULA if prompted.
  4. The upload validates that the zip file matches the correct appliance and meets any licensing prerequisites. If an error is returned, capture a screenshot and email it to sales@superna.net (do not open a support case for this).
  5. Once the license applies successfully, the licensed capacity card updates and the new license appears in the license table below it.
  6. Most products require additional configuration after licensing — see that product's own configuration documentation.

Requesting a Trial License​

  1. Log in to the Superna Support Portal.
  2. Fill in the trial request form with the product name and check the box indicating this is a trial key request. Some products also require a proof-of-concept (POC) form.
  3. Trial requests are reviewed Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM EDT, with an update typically provided within 24 hours.

License Assignment When Adding a Cluster​

Each writable cluster requires an agent license (and agent maintenance) for Ransomware Defender and Easy Auditor. This behavior is the same across all supported storage platforms: when you add a cluster to Eyeglass, the License Devices tab surfaces the licensed devices available and prompts you to assign the license manually — license assignment is not automatic. If more clusters are managed than there are available agent licenses, a system alarm is raised, and you'll need to choose which cluster receives the available agent license key using the procedure below.

Manually Assign Licenses to Clusters​

  1. Open the License Manager icon.

  2. Select the License Devices tab.

  3. For a product license currently marked Auto Licensed, select Unlicensed to remove the license from that cluster.

    note

    Another cluster currently set to Auto Licensed may need to be set to Unlicensed first before you can apply a User Licensed assignment to a different device.

  4. Select User Licensed on the cluster that should receive the license. This pins the license to that cluster.

For DR module license keys specifically, node-count-based assignment is handled automatically: the largest node-count cluster is assigned DR module cluster keys first, with remaining node-based keys applied from the pool to any additional clusters added to Eyeglass, until all node and cluster keys are assigned.
