Eyeglass Automatic Updates for Recommended Packages

Introduction​

The Eyeglass appliance checks weekly for recommended openSUSE updates and applies them automatically, provided the appliance has internet access. For customers without internet access, OS updates must be applied manually using RPMs retrieved from internet-hosted repositories.

Customers who rehost OS patches internally can change the repository URL on the appliance using zypper ar <URL> "<name of repo>" — see the openSUSE documentation for details.

Change the Automatic Update Schedule​

The appliance is configured by default to check weekly for recommended packages and apply them automatically. To change this:

  1. SSH to the Eyeglass appliance, log in as admin, then sudo su to root (or log in directly as root).

  2. Run:

    yast

    The YaST2 menu opens with Software selected by default.

  3. Use the right arrow to move to the right-hand menu, then the down arrow to highlight Online Update Configuration, and press Enter.

  4. On the Online Update Configuration screen, leave Skip Interactive Patches enabled — this ensures the RPM versions Eyeglass requires aren't overwritten.

    caution

    If you need to change this setting, contact support first for instructions. Always take a VMware snapshot before updating the OS, in case a rollback is needed. If the operating system becomes corrupted, license keys cannot be reset — support cannot reset license keys in that scenario. Contact support before unchecking this option if you're unsure.

  5. To change the update interval, Tab to the Interval field, then use the arrow keys to select the interval you want and press Enter.

  6. To enable or disable automatic updates, Tab to Automatic Online Update and press Enter to toggle it.

  7. Tab to OK and press Enter to save your changes.
