Phone Home
The Phone Home tab controls opt-in telemetry that sends anonymized system health and usage statistics to Superna to support product improvement and support.
When enabled, the console periodically collects a summary of operational metrics, such as job counts, device counts, ingest volumes, and error rates. It compresses the summary and sends it to the Superna telemetry endpoint.
The payload contains only aggregate counts and system-health metrics. It never includes file names, object keys, bucket names, user names, IP addresses, file content, or other customer-identifying data.
Scheduled Sending
The Phone Home Toggle turns automatic scheduled sending on or off.
- On — the console sends a payload on the configured schedule, typically daily. The schedule applies immediately.
- Off — no automatic sends occur. Local history and previously sent data are not deleted.
The toggle saves as soon as you change it. There is no Save button.
Phone Home Now
Phone Home Now sends a payload immediately, whether or not the scheduled toggle is on. Use it when support asks for a fresh snapshot, or to verify that the telemetry endpoint is reachable. You can use it in environments that do not allow automatic outbound connections but permit occasional manual sends.
A result panel then shows the outcome of each phase. If a phase fails, the remaining phases are skipped and the failure reason is shown.
| Phase | What it does | A failure indicates |
|---|---|---|
| Collect | Gathers the metric snapshot from the local databases and job engine | A problem querying internal state |
| Compress | Compresses the payload | Rarely, a disk space or memory problem |
| Transmit | Sends the payload over HTTPS to the Superna telemetry endpoint | A network connectivity problem, or the endpoint is unreachable |
| Confirm | Receives the acknowledgement from the endpoint | The payload was sent but receipt was not confirmed. The History table records a partial failure. |
History
The History table lists all past phone-home attempts, scheduled and manual.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Timestamp | Date and time of the attempt, in UTC |
| Trigger Type | scheduled (the configured schedule), manual (Phone Home Now), or support request (a support workflow sent it on your behalf) |
| Status | success (all phases completed and receipt was confirmed) or failed (one or more phases did not complete) |
For a failed attempt, hover over or expand the row to see which phase failed. A long gap between scheduled entries can mean that the schedule is not running or that the system was offline.
Workflows
Enable scheduled phone home
- Open the Phone Home tab.
- Switch Phone Home Toggle on.
Send a payload immediately for support
- Click Phone Home Now.
- Check the result panel to confirm that all four phases succeed.
- If a phase fails, note the failure reason and check network connectivity to the Superna telemetry endpoint.
- Tell the support team that the payload was sent so they can locate it by the system identifier.
Disable phone home
- Switch Phone Home Toggle off.
Automatic sends stop immediately. Previously sent history remains in the History table.
In air-gapped environments the Transmit phase always fails. Leave the toggle off.
