Email Alerts
Configure SMTP email notifications for alarm events. When an alarm fires and email is enabled for its alarm rule, the console sends a notification to the configured recipients.
Email Alerting Toggle
The master switch for email alerting. When it is off, no emails are sent regardless of alarm rule settings. Each alarm rule also has its own email flag, and both must be on for an email to be sent.
SMTP Configuration
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Transport | The connection security. See Transport options. Default: STARTTLS. |
| SMTP Host | Hostname or IP address of the SMTP server, for example smtp.office365.com or 192.168.1.10 for an on-premises relay. |
| Port | TCP port of the SMTP server. Default: 587. Use 465 for SSL/TLS and 25 for plain relay. |
| SMTP Username / Password | Credentials for the SMTP server. Leave blank for unauthenticated internal relays. |
| From Address | The address shown in the From field of notifications, for example alerts@yourcompany.com. The SMTP server must allow this address to send. |
Transport options
- STARTTLS (default, port 587) — connects on plain SMTP and upgrades to TLS. Recommended for most mail servers, including Office 365 and Google Workspace.
- SSL/TLS (port 465) — opens a TLS connection from the start. Some older mail servers use it.
- Plain (port 25) — no encryption. Use it only for internal relay servers on a trusted network.
Password fields
- Current password — a read-only indicator that shows
••••••••when a password is stored. The eye button toggles the masked display. The actual value is never shown. - New password — enter a value to change the stored password. Leave it blank to keep the existing password.
The password is stored AES-256 encrypted. Saving settings from another tab never overwrites it unless you enter a new value.
Alert Recipients
The list of email addresses that receive alarm notifications, both digest batches and real-time alerts. Enter an address in the input field and click Add.
Delivery Options
Batch Window
Alarm notifications accumulate and are sent as a single digest email at the end of each batch window. The digest lists every alarm that fired in the window, with its code, severity, and context. If no alarm fires in a window, no email is sent.
- Batch Window (seconds) — default: 300 seconds (5 minutes). Batching prevents email floods when many alarms fire in quick succession.
An alarm rule can bypass the batch window with its Real-time flag. See Per-Alarm Email Configuration.
Daily Job Summary Email
When enabled, the console sends a daily email at the configured time. It lists the jobs that started, completed, and failed in the previous 24 hours. The time uses 24-hour format in server time, for example 08:00.
Test Email Connection
The test sends one email using the current saved SMTP configuration. It verifies that the server is reachable, the credentials are correct, and delivery succeeds. You can override the recipient to send the test to a specific address.
The test uses the last saved settings. If you have unsaved changes, including a new password, save them before you test.
SMTP Handshake Log
After you click Send Test Email, the full SMTP exchange is shown: EHLO, AUTH, STARTTLS negotiation, DATA, and QUIT, or the error at the point of failure. It gives the same detail as running swaks or openssl s_client manually. Use it to diagnose:
- TLS certificate errors
- Authentication failures, such as a wrong username, password, or mechanism
- Relay restrictions, where the SMTP server rejects the From address or recipient domain
- A firewall blocking the connection
Per-Alarm Email Configuration
Enable email for each alarm rule on the Alarm Rules tab. Each rule has two flags.
| Flag | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Whether the alarm sends a notification when it fires. Blue is enabled, grey is disabled. | |
| Real-time | Whether the alarm bypasses the batch window and sends immediately. Amber is real-time, grey is batched. It applies only when Email is also enabled. |
To change several rules at once, select them with the checkboxes. The bulk action bar then enables or disables email, or sets real-time or batched delivery, for all selected rules. The header checkbox selects only the rules currently visible after filtering.
Filters
- All Rules — every alarm rule (default).
- Email not configured — rules with email disabled. Rules leave this view as you enable email on them.
- Email enabled — rules that currently send email.
The count in parentheses updates as you change email flags.
