Hardware Setup

Hardware Prerequisites

Once Disaster Recovery Edition is deployed, certain hardware configuration steps must be taken to ensure smooth operation of the solution.

warning

All hardware clusters managed by Superna DR Edition must be properly configured before adding them to the Eyeglass management console.

Why Minimum Privilege User Cannot Be Done

For Pure FlashBlade clusters, the Eyeglass service account requires elevated privileges beyond what a minimum privilege user can provide. This is because:

  1. Automated DR Operations: The disaster recovery solution performs automated failover and failback operations that require administrative access to multiple system components, including:

    • NFS Export Policies/Rules
    • SMB Client Policies/Share Policies
    • File System Audit Policies
    • Syslog Log Targets
    • QOS Policies
    • Snapshot Policies
    • File System Properties
    • Replica Links
  2. Time-Sensitive Operations: During failover events, the solution must execute multiple commands in rapid succession without manual intervention.

  3. Configuration Replication: The solution must replicate complex configurations between clusters, requiring read and write access to system-level settings.

Due to these requirements, a service account with appropriate privileges is necessary for proper operation of Superna Disaster Recovery Edition.
