Why We’re Separating Product Versions for Now
At Superna, our commitment to delivering powerful, reliable, and efficient solutions remains steadfast. As part of this commitment, we have made an important decision regarding how we manage the versions of our products moving forward.
To ensure that we can deliver new features more quickly and efficiently, we will be separately managing the versions of our products for the time being.
VAST and Qumulo will be supported on the 4.x stream (Multiplatform Cyberstorage), while Dell PowerScale and ECS will continue on the 2.x stream (Cyberstorage for Dell).
What This Means for New Customers
For those just getting started with our solutions, we recommend separate deployments for different storage vendors. This approach enables independent management and upgrades of your PowerScale and VAST/Qumulo platforms, allowing us to bring you new features more efficiently.
If you’re wondering about the required number of nodes to support both platforms, our team will need to assess your environment on a case-by-case basis. Factors such as expansion plans and the number of clusters will determine the node count. If you are scaling up your environment, additional nodes may be required. However, if you are reducing PowerScale usage and migrating data to VAST, you may be able to maintain or even reduce your current node count.
For Customers Who Have Upgraded to 2.9.0 with a Different Platform
We understand that some customers may be aware of the delays surrounding the release of version 2.9.0. This version introduced a major enhancement—the multiplatform feature—which allowed users to manage operations across PowerScale, VAST, and Qumulo from a single Eyeglass appliance. While this feature provided undeniable convenience, its complexity made development, maintenance, and testing more challenging, ultimately leading to delays in the release of 2.9.0.
To ensure we avoid similar delays in the future and continue to bring you innovative features on a faster timeline, we are now adopting separate product versions for different storage platforms. This means that, moving forward, separate deployments will be necessary to manage PowerScale and VAST/Qumulo individually, providing you with more control over upgrades and feature adoption.
As with new customers, determining the right number of nodes for your setup requires a tailored assessment of your environment. If your infrastructure is expanding or the number of clusters is increasing, additional nodes may be needed. Conversely, if PowerScale usage is decreasing and data is being migrated to VAST, your current node count may remain the same or be reduced.
Our Commitment to a Unified Solution
We recognize the importance of a unified solution that allows you to seamlessly evaluate threats and manage failover orchestration across multiple platforms. Our long-term goal remains unchanged: enhancing deployability, scalability, and cross-platform support. While we focus on improving the speed and efficiency of feature delivery, we are also working on a version of our product that will support multiple platforms and improve your overall experience.
We will continue to provide updates as we progress toward this goal. Your feedback is invaluable, and we appreciate your support as we evolve to better serve your needs.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss how these changes impact your specific environment, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.
