Vast - Tenant Failover

What is Tenant Failover

A Tenant is a logical grouping of resources within VAST clusters, designed to facilitate the division of a cluster's resources and enhance security. For more detailed information, you can refer to VAST’s documentation on Tenants.

In the context of failover, a Tenant serves as a means to logically group various failover-capable objects. This organization not only streamlines the failover process but also enables automatic redirection of clients through the VIP Pools nested within the Tenant.

How do you determine what is failed over within a Tenant?

There are two primary objects associated to Tenants used within Tenant failover:

  • Protected Paths: these are the data that will be failed over
  • VIP Pools: these are the IP addresses that will be used for client redirection
info

VIP Pools can either be associated to a single Tenant or ALL Tenants.

If a VIP Pool is associated to all Tenants it will be ignored as a part of failover operations and will need to be failed over manually outside of the Superna appliance

How to Execute Tenant Failover

Pre-Requisites
