How to Manually Switch SMB Connection to Target Cluster After Failover

Introduction

This guide covers the process required to manually switch SMB connection to the Target Cluster after Failover.

Procedure

  1. If the client was connected to the share during the Failover: unmount the share (disconnect) and remount the share (connect).

  2. Test read/write against newly mounted shares.

    warning

If the test fails, the original connection information is likely cached on the client machine. The data in this case would continue to be available, however it would be read-only and writes would fail. To remove the cached connection information, reboot the PC, or use Net Use Command, or Windows Explorer to unmount the share.

  3. Test read/write again if necessary, against the newly mounted share.

  4. If the test continues to fail, use the Test Data Access Procedures article to diagnose the issue.
