Failover Configuration

Introduction

Failover Configuration is the foundation of any Superna DR deployment. This section provides comprehensive guidance on setting up and validating different types of failover operations supported by Eyeglass. Each failover type is designed to support specific disaster recovery needs, whether you're failing over a single SyncIQ policy, an entire Access Zone, specific IP pools, or Microsoft DFS folder targets.

Before initiating a failover, read and understand the associated requirements, best practices, and topology considerations. Each subsection includes prerequisites, configuration procedures, and automation options to help ensure a smooth, predictable, and recoverable failover process.

SyncIQ Policy Failover

Eyeglass supports failover of individual SyncIQ policies, allowing granular control over your disaster recovery operations.

Use this section to review prerequisites, supported topologies, and recommendations before executing a policy-based failover. You'll also find detailed setup steps, including sudo configuration, automation options, and planning tools.

Access Zone Failover

Access Zone failover enables a full failover of all configuration, networking, and data paths tied to a specific PowerScale Access Zone. This method is recommended for environments where applications, shares, exports, and quotas are logically grouped under a single zone.

Use this section to review prerequisites like mapping hints, SmartConnect delegation, and SPN configuration, then follow the step-by-step procedures to configure your environment for assisted failover using Eyeglass.

IP Pool Failover

IP Pool Failover offers precise control over failover at the network level, enabling administrators to manage failover readiness and execution for each IP pool within an Access Zone. This is especially useful in active/active or fan-in/fan-out topologies, where each IP pool aligns with specific workloads or data paths.

Use this section to review prerequisites such as policy-to-pool mapping and SmartConnect alignment, then follow the step-by-step configuration procedures for both standard and advanced multi-cluster designs.

DFS Failover

DFS Failover allows seamless redirection of client access during a disaster by managing SMB shares through Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS). Superna Eyeglass integrates with PowerScale OneFS to automate DFS target updates, SmartConnect zone management, and share renaming during failover.

This section provides prerequisites and procedures for configuring DFS failover across PowerScale clusters, including Active Directory setup, SyncIQ policy design, and Eyeglass integration for automated failover workflows.
